Sympathetic Vibrations

November 8, 2007

Last night, my friend Jenn and I were chatting, and the topic turned to vibrations.

Apparently, she and I have similarly oriented antennas, and can sense vibrations.

Everything in the world is vibrating. It’s an energy of life. But nothing is vibrating at the same frequency. Similar vibrations attract each other, while some frequencies cause problems when they are too close.

For example: my wife and I have problems with incandescent light bulbs. In our house, they all have very short light spans. They just go out before their time. We try to use compact fluorescent bulbs whenever possible — and the energy saving isn’t the only reason why.

Not only that, we also shut off street lights. I can’t keep count how many times I’ve driven/walked beneath street lights, where they just go off when we get close to them. They do come back, a while after we are gone (I think).

Another example: once I had a co-worker who couldn’t wear a watch. I don’t know if she meant analog or digital or both, but she said that all watches go crazy on her. Apparently they stop functioning properly when they’re on her body.

Colors have vibrations. Thoughts have vibrations. Sounds have vibrations. And if you pay attention, you can sense them. This part is hard to explain — it’s really intuitive. But people do it all the time. Good designers and marketing people know, for example, that certain colors give certain impressions. Different feelings.

Knowing this, you can take it a step further. Knowing that you have a certain vibration, or energy — you can align other things around you to be cohesive to your energy. It’s as simple as having clothes that are of colors that look good on you. Having favorite words and phrases that you use in your conversations — except you’re intentional this time. From room decor to car interior to your office cubicle, you can bring your own “theme” to it.

I must confess, for example, that both my office and my home are untidier than I’d like. It’s my weakness, organizing of physical items. I’m very organized, on the other hand, when it comes to computer files. I have a directory scheme and I know where exactly everything is.

Obviously many of you notice that my profile has a particular visual style. And writing style. I’m trying to fine tune all the elements into a singular, focused theme. Why? Because this is how I’d like to be, and this is the kind of people I want to surround myself with. And it’s already working wonders — I can’t believe how many cool people I’ve already come across on MySpace. I had an account here for years, but I never did anything with it, thinking it’s so juvenile and mature people don’t hang out here.

So I encourage you to develope your theme, or style. Have fun with it. Particularly if you’re a musician, but it’s beneficial for everyone. Not to limit yourself to something — but just to channel your energy into a focused stream, so that you can turn the world around you into a space that vibrates to complement you.
