I just learned that Tom Araya, the bassist and vocalist of the seminal Slayer, is a Christian. Catholic, to be precise, and still believes strongly in that faith.
Apparently, all the anti-religion and anti-deity lyrics in that band’s catalog does not bother or shake his beliefs one bit. For exact quotes taken [...]

From CNN.com:
“Japan’s government has long battled to contain the country’s alarmingly high suicide rate. A total of 32,155 people killed themselves in 2006, giving the country the ninth highest rate in the world, according to the government.
Suicides first passed the 30,000 mark in 1998, near the height of an economic slump that left many bankrupt, [...]

Lyrical Excerpt:
Perfect blue
That’s my color
Perfect peace
That’s my policy
Don’t disturb my noisy slumber
I want more
I have more
Give me more

The lyrics to this song is rather crude and primal. There’s really nothing profound, mysterious or mature about them. They don’t rhyme, either.

It’s my theory that these incidents are perpetuating itself. The more media coverage there is (and I’m not advocating that media NOT cover it), the more we think that this CAN happen. The idea gets incubated in mentally unstable people, and those two elements [...]

As with all well-meaning people, there are a number of causes/charities I’d like to support. Everything from AIDS crisis in Africa to ban on landmines to humane society to reducing our carbon footprint to legalizing hemp….
You get the picture. There’s a lot.

I hope you have watched it. If you haven’t, I hope you do soon, and I hope you like it. It’s a terrific movie on many levels.
One scene that always gets me, is the scene inside the whale’s mouth.

Empire is definitely the ugliest song in this collection. Hence its inclusion.
You see, it’s a very important song to me, precisely because it’s ugly. And it has stayed with me for a long time, under various names. I eventually settled on Empire, because to me it sounds like the voice inside the head [...]
