This is something I do concern myself with, quite seriously.
And also that’s the reason why so many musicians hate the words like ‘promotion’ and ‘marketing.’
It seems that so much of marketing or promotion is focused on manipulation. The ads on TV, or newspaper. They all try very hard to make you want [...]

I just learned that happiness doesn’t necessarily mean feeling happy.
Don’t get me wrong, if you’re feeling happy, then you are happy. Be happy! Celebrate!
But you may be experiencing other types of emotions, and still feel “happy.” Perhaps the word “happiness” is problematic here. You can be “joyful,” “content,” or “satisfied” without [...]

I just learned that Tom Araya, the bassist and vocalist of the seminal Slayer, is a Christian. Catholic, to be precise, and still believes strongly in that faith.
Apparently, all the anti-religion and anti-deity lyrics in that band’s catalog does not bother or shake his beliefs one bit. For exact quotes taken [...]

I’ve been going through some old CDs, and I’ve gotten rid of quite a few. But I came across one album that surprised me.
It’s The Alarm’s Eye of the Hurricane.
The Alarm, for those of you not old enough, was a British band from 80’s that were colleagues of early U2.

I hope you have watched it. If you haven’t, I hope you do soon, and I hope you like it. It’s a terrific movie on many levels.
One scene that always gets me, is the scene inside the whale’s mouth.

It’s easy to misunderstand. Very.
But many of us musicians are wrong about this. Or if we knew at one point, we forget.
I don’t want to be one of them.
You see, music is not a one-way street, like, a flash light illuminating a black wall.

Well, that’s not quite right, though close. An old Japanese saying goes something like “for a real man, knowing when to retreat is important.”
Today is a day to accept my defeat. It was just “one of those days” when everything seems to go wrong.
My solution? Give up. Go to bed early.
Good night.

Some of us are better than others.
In concealing what’s inside.
Some days I feel that I must be so good at it. I have this inpenetratable surface — hard and shiny, slick and never-changing — that clearly states to the world “I’m fine and dandy, the same as yesterday.”
