About a Song: Empire (1)

April 9, 2008

Empire is definitely the ugliest song in this collection.  Hence its inclusion.
You see, it’s a very important song to me, precisely because it’s ugly. And it has stayed with me for a long time, under various names. I eventually settled on Empire, because to me it sounds like the voice inside the head [...]

The 2nd Step

April 8, 2008

This weekend I officially started making the 2nd album.
Yay!
Most of the songs are written for the album — but I looked at the list and I saw 11. I thought I had 12 or 13? Maybe I’ll have to write more.

Top 5!

March 25, 2008

I just found out a couple of days ago that Aries9 is #5 in the Japanese Rock chart at CDbaby.com.
To celebrate this, and to encourage the upward motion, I’m knocking $1 off from both CD and mp3s for a limited time. I’ll knock another $1 off when it reaches the top 3.
Please help me [...]

About a song: Tiny Toon (2)

February 20, 2008

Lyrical Excerpt:
Took all this time to grow up
Is it a time to weave a cocoon?
Dreaming about my white night mare
Of turning into a tiny toon
I thought I kept walking
When did I leave my feet behind?
I cared about what I’d become
Or did I seek out to be your kind?

Ethnic Aspiration

February 15, 2008

Today I was reading and listening to this article about George Takei. And in the interview, Mr. Takei made a comment that struck me. For the exact words you’ll have to listen to it, but he was talking about meeting Toshiro Mifune, the Japanese actor famous for his role in Akira Kurosawa’s Seven [...]

About a song: Tiny Toon (1)

February 13, 2008

First of all, I had no idea that a cartoon of the same title existed until recently.  The song was written right around the same time as the cartoon, but there is absolute no connection.
Darn.  I thought it was a catchy title.  Apparently somebody else was smart, also.

Brainstorming

February 6, 2008

I love brainstorming.  It’s creative, free, and unrestricted.
That’s what I started doing in the last week or so, with my guitar.  Before and right after the move, I obviously couldn’t really play the guitar — so even though my music equipment is still stacked away, I thought my first order of business in my new [...]

About a song: Diamond Sleeps Tonight (3)

January 30, 2008

Lyrical excerpt:
Paulina, will you please come and meet Geordine?
The drama of our deaths deserves a cool fanzine
Will you come and sleep with me?
Will you come and sweep with me?
Your imitation diamond
Will you come and sleep with me?

Mediocrity is not an option. But….

January 29, 2008

So, we’re slowly but surely organizing our new dwelling.
It shouldn’t be this big of deal, I keep thinking — but in reality this is the first time, probably in 5 years or so, that we’re attempting to properly organize a house. In 2002 we moved out of the apartment we lived in, into [...]

The Wonders of Routine

January 24, 2008

Today was my third day at my new day job.
I had a “vacation” of sorts for a month. Not working, or more importantly, not having any routines or structures to my days, was actually not enjoyable. Moving is very hard work, taking care of little kids consistently so, and when they’re sick it’s [...]
